VERY RARE AND HIGHLY COLLECTABLE REELS
All the reels shown on this page have been sympathetically restored and repaired by me, some were restored for customers, some for me, most had parts missing or broken along with some wear and tear including corrosion.
The 'Howban' Reel
An extremely rare 'Howban' reel, manufactured for a very short time 1945 to 1946 by Howell & Co. Howban regd, Molesley, Birmingham, which is engraved on the back. This is the smaller 2 1/2 inch diameter model, a larger one was also produced, The reel has a rotatable foot in the Malloch style for casting and reeling in and a ceramic sliding line guide.

The Hardy 'Perfect' Fly Reel
A Hardy Perfect reel, the smallest size produced for fly fishing 3 inch diameter, a size that is not often seen. Manufactured circa 1940. The Perfect, high quality range of fly and salmon reels are very collectable and with over 80 variables in the range they can command high prices especially the rarer models and sizes.

A Palace Superb Threadline Reel
The Palace Superb reel was produced in the 1940's. It was made by W. White and Co, Birmingham. An unusual looking reel which was made entirely from aluminium apart from the steel shepherds crook which traveled in and out when the handle is turned and laid the line on the spool evenly. Two sizes were made for salmon and trout. The model shown is the smaller trout size. There is also a rare original spare spool which can be changed quickly by unscrewing the spool tensioning device on the end of the spool.

An Edward Vom Hofe Salmon Reel
Edward Vom Hofe Reels are of the best quality and very collectable. This fully restored reel is a 4 1/4 diameter salmon reel. Vom Hofe reels were made in the United States in New York and this particular model dates circa 1920. It is made from German Silver and Hard Rubber and features a unique and ingenious internal drag system using leather brake pads.
